Now that comp picks are no longer a factor and DL, CB and G still being positions of need are there any current agents we may take a look at it. Flores could possibly have some interest in two of his former players in Xavien Howard and Emannual Ogbah, not sure how either would fit with our cap, but either or both would help give the defense a boost. Tyler Boyd is someone who I think would be an ideal 3rd WR for us.

Iβm hoping for a G/C (Elflein?) to compete to back up Bradbury and the guard spots, a WR3, preferably a bigger size-speed deep threat (MVS?), and a 3-4 versatile DT (Marlon Davidson?) to compete with the other bench guys.
i donβt think the guys out there really are staring quality (though some were, fairly recently), but reserve level and rotation / specific role guys that would help keep the team competitive.

Do you think comp picks are why we traded all our middle round picks next year? Coupled with the fact we should have an abundance of cap space

Coupled with the fact we should have an abundance of cap space The trade up to #23 was a move to allow them flex to move up the board for a QB. They could not get a deal done with one of the top 3 teams in the draft so then it was mostly used as a threat to control the board a bit down to their pick. Once they got the QB that pick had served its purposes. The move up for Turner has to be separated from the trade for the #23 pick. When they made the move up from #23 it was for the player. Yes they gutted the 2nd thru 4th rd for next year, but it was for a player that was worth it IMHO and the picks had already been spent on the #23 for other reasons. Would it make people feel any better if they had traded up to say #5 and gave up both 1sts and maybe got back a 3rd or a 4th and no Dallas Turner? They ended up with a QB and a blue chip Edge. Lets say they never trade up to #23 do you think they could have traded up for Turner with the same compensation spent directly to move up a round would that have been more acceptable? By trading for #23 it gave them ammo to talk trade up into the top 3 picks, control of trade talks from #4 to their own pick, and once they secured the QB it was ammo to get the best QB possible.

Coupled with the fact we should have an abundance of cap space Seems like maybe they blew it a little with all the free agent signings. Losing Cousins and Hunter should have got them two 3rd rounders. But they signed too many new guys. I saw somewhere if Risner signed elsewhere it might have given them the other 3rd back, maybe they were expecting that. This is a "cancellation chart" from Overthecap: Name Rd APY # Name Rd APY # Kirk Cousins 3 $45M 8 Danielle Hunter 3 $24.5M 42 Sam Darnold 5 $10M 258 D.J. Wonnum 6 $6.25M 354 Blake Cashman 6 $8.5M 334 Marcus Davenport 6 $6.5M 377 Shaquill Griffin 6 $4.55M 441 Jordan Hicks 6 $4M 454 Jonathan Greenard 4 $19M 124 K.J. Osborn 7 $4M 484 Andrew Van Ginkel 5 $10M 249

IMO I like the guys we signed better than having another 3rd or 4th. I really DO NOT want the Vikings to start letting comp picks determine FA signings.

I think hanging on to that 3rd round comp pick would have been wise. Not often teams let go of a player who gets a big enough contract to get a third back.
I think it was the Shaq Griffen signing that cancelled out the 3rd. They could have still picked up free agents after the comp formula window had passed. Maybe not got exactly who they wanted but still could fill holes.

Iβm hoping for a G/C (Elflein?) too brittle. His bones are made of toffee

Iβm hoping for a G/C (Elflein?) too brittle. His bones are made of toffee wow, just checked his post Vikes injury history and yikes. not much out there, though. Mason Cole, Conor Williams (but will be too expensive), Scott Queensburyβ¦ but Brandel needs real competition, and we need someone reliable to turn to if Bradbury goes down agai - he himself hasnβt been that reliable, missing several games each of the last 3 seasons. Corey Levin, a FA out of TN, has experience at both guard and centerβ¦ even started a handful of games here and there.

One thing the Vikings could do to get the 2nd third round comp pick back we lost when they signed Griffen, is to release griffen somewhere around mid season. This happened to us when the cardinals released Sam Bradford around week 7after signing him to a 1 year deal. if our season is going poorly and/or griffen is playing poorly or isnβt playing much releasing him would get us the pick . Not sure the Vikings would do that to him but itβs likely an option. Essentially trading him for a 3rd round comp pick
