Roo - What say you about the comments regarding JJ McCarthy not being able to throw downfield accurately? I know you watched his every snap and I have several co-workers and friends who claim that to be a true statement. Plenty of great analysis and videos posted in Armageddon as well as on the web to see the good and the bad (as well as actual live and taped game film) and I am just not seeing the issue as that pronounced. What am I missing? He is accurate, but I do think people are right when they say he throws a hot ball almost all the time. I think there were a lot of drops and missed catches because of this and the fact he only had 1 true top receiving target. I expect NFL receivers will do better with it. I mean guy was near top in accuracy 2 years running in an offense that called for a lot of his passing to be in passing situations and a fairly vertical passing game. I think people just keep wanting to come up with something to knock him down for...

I recognize that both he and the receivers are not in pads and I am not one to usually comment on those types of events, but I have to say that the complaint on deep accuracy and touch on the throws seemed to be fairly on point with the limited sample we saw. That said, those 10 throws or so could have been the only 10 out of sample of 100 that looked good. lol

Something that has been severely downplayed with McCarthy is the talent he was throwing to. Look at all the other big prospects in the draft and then look at McCarthyβs. He wr were horrible at getting open and dropped a shit load of passes. Iβm honestly surprised he was able to help Michigan win with these guys when he was asked to throw in big situations.
The more I read and watch of the kid, the more Iβm hyped. I could be just drinking the purple coolaid like others but the kid just looks so legit for such a young age. To me he is a bit like Brock Purdy but he has a better arm and athleticism than Purdy. Purdy has the smarts and attitude but just not the tools, I feel McCarthy has both and will be very good

It would be ironic if Bo Nix ends up being better then JJMπ
Time will tell.

Iβve now watched I think every YouTube breakdown etc. I think McCarthy is Teddy Bridgewater almost exactly:
- Stands tall vs pressure & ball usually goes where itβs supposed to - Extensive big time college experience vs great opponents - Great upbeat personality and positive locker room guy - decent athlete, not a statue, mobile - arm never ever wows on tape. Not impressive βarm talentβ - winner - limited upside & downside
Actually I am good with Teddy 2.0 at #10 so this is not a digβ¦

Also he looks like he can scramble a bit more without getting broken in half. I don't want that to be a major part of his game, but it's nice to have in the back pocket when needed. I do love how poised and composed he is at just 21. He's definitely one of the riskier QB products as far as a low floor, but his ceiling is extremely high and I love that KAMKOC really went for it. Whether it pans out or not, I fully support the big swing and look forward to seeing his development over the next few years.

Well, I think the personalities and leadership abilities between cutler an JJ are complete opposites.

I hadn't thought about that, but I agree there are some similarities, but I think JJ has a bigger arm than Teddy, is more accurate on deep throws than Teddy AND more importantly I think he's more aggressive than Teddy both as a runner and a thrower. I can remember early in Teddy's career watching Zimmer jumping up and down on the sidelines having a stroke as Teddy rolled out of the pocket but wouldn't run despite not having anyone closer than 20 yards in front of him. Honestly....while we weren't very good yet, those first few years when Teddy was here and we were playing at TCF....those were some really fun years to watch! Fan's loved that kid even if he was a bit limited.

I generally agree legion and red, but- and rightfully this will meet eye rolls- I never saw much of the field but played QB at lower tier college level. With all the camps and throwing around I did, lots of guys could whip it in warm ups and drills when they didnβt have to aim or elude, and kind of turned into noodle arms when unscripted. I really didnβt see JJ ripping it in all that tape I watched. Teddy has some tape 55+ yards on a rope (vs Cincinatti ball from his own 2 yard line).
Anyway, again at this point Iβm good with another young Teddy and happy w the draft π
